Brendan Lavy, Assistant Professor, Environmental & Sustainability Sciences, Texas Christian University

 

Dr. Stephanie Adams

Dr. Stephanie Adams is a tree pathologist and an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist (BCMA) with 24 years of experience in the green industry. She has extensive field and lab expertise working with trees and landscape plants. Dr. Adams holds a B.S. in Botany with a minor in Urban Forestry from Western Illinois University, an M.S. in Plant Pathology from the University of Georgia, and a Ph.D. in Forest Tree Pathology from the University of Florida’s School of Forestry. She has been an ISA Certified Arborist since 2007 and earned the BCMA credential in 2017. Since 2019, she has served as Chair of the BCMA Test Committee.

Her professional background includes tree climbing, soil enhancement techniques like air spading and knifing, pesticide applications, field and clinical plant disease diagnosis, and insect and abiotic stress identification. Dr. Adams also provides advising services for residents, HOAs, landowners, and municipalities. A passionate supporter of the green industry, she regularly volunteers at tree climbing competitions and enjoys mentoring others interested in plant health care, plant pathology, urban forestry, forestry, and arboriculture.

 

 

Dr. Andrew Loyd

Andrew is currently a plant pathologist and arboriculture researcher for the Bartlett Tree Experts company based out of Fort Worth, TX. Andrew holds a B.S. in horticulture from Louisiana State University, a M.S. in plant pathology from North Carolina State University, and a PhD in forest resource and conservation from the University of Florida. He is broadly interested and researches diseases of woody plants, wood decay in living trees, and arboriculture best management practices. He is an active member of the American Phytopathological Society, Mycological Society of America, and the International Society of Arboriculture.

 

 

 

 

Dr. Demian Gomez

Dr. Demian Gomez is the Regional Forest Health Coordinator for the Texas A&M Forest Service. His work focuses on early detection, management, and regional initiatives to address forest pests. He coordinates forest health projects across Central and West Texas with government, academic, and private partners.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Brendan Lavy

Dr. Brendan Lavy is an assistant professor of environmental and sustainability sciences at TCU. He combines environmental science, social science, and policy to address sustainability challenges in complex urban social-ecological systems. His research focuses on urban forestry, disaster recovery, and community resilience and has provided an understanding of the mechanisms that safeguard trees and their cultural significance as well as the role of urban forests in creating sustainable and resilient urban systems.

 We invite you to support the annual North Texas Urban Forestry Conference (NTUFC), to be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Hurst Conference Center. The conference hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. This year’s theme is Less Stress More FoREST.

The NTUFC will have outstanding speakers and professional arboricultural education. Commercial and municipal arborists in North Texas look forward to this annual learning and networking event.
