Cross Timbers Urban
Forestry Council offers several eco-excursions
throughout the year. We focus on outdoor activities such
as biking, bird-watching, canoeing, hiking, backpacking and
camping in the Cross Timbers region; usually staying in Texas.
Occasionally, trips may be planned into Oklahoma. Check
out our Calendar of Events for scheduled eco-excursions.
UPCOMING ECO-EXCURSIONS
We occasionally offer organized
excursions for our members. Check the
Calendar of Events page for dates,
locations and contact information for these trips.
SOME PAST ECO-EXCURSIONS
Big Trees of Texas
CTUFC took an excursion through the countryside of
Texas to explore big trees. Some stops were to the state champ Vitex & Smoketree in Johnson City, the
state champ Bigtooth Maple & Escarpment Black Cherry in Lost
Maples State Park & many other large & noble trees along the
way.
We spent Friday night in Fredericksburg & Saturday night at
Garner State Park in cabins.
Canoe & Kayaking trip on the Trinity
Trinity River in Fort Worth
CTUFC
members & guests went on an urban canoe trip on the Trinity River
in Fort Worth!
The put-in point was just below Benbrook dam & take out
was in Trinity Park. The group had a nice day for
kayaking & canoeing.
Dinosaur
Valley State Park Birding Trip
CTUFC has also led several birding hikes in search of a glimpse of the endangered
Golden-cheeked Warbler at Dinosaur Valley State Park. Some Cross Timbers members went on a
backpacking and primitive camping trip to Dinosaur
Valley State Park. The next morning, the remainder of
the group (who didn't camp out) met at the trailhead and spent
the day leisurely hiking through the hills and woods of Dinosaur
Valley looking for Golden-cheeked
Warblers.
Habitat
for Humanity Tree Planting Blitz
Fort Worth
Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council volunteers planted trees
for new Habitat for Humanity homeowners to enjoy. What a
great way to make a house feel like a home...and reduce utility
bills as well!
Lake Mineral Wells State Park
Kayaking & Camping Trip (oh...and the annual meeting!)
Lake Mineral Wells State Park
Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council members attended
the annual meeting at
Lake Mineral Wells State Park to discuss the coming year's
action items and vote on new Executive Committee and Board
members. Following the meeting, several members stayed to
hike in the Western Cross Timbers, as well as kayak and then
camp out. Some members went on a naturalist-guided Cross
Timbers hike the next morning. Fun was had by all.
